1848 Stage Coach

Here's a little section of anybody who manages to find a really odd ball model that doesn't fit into any of the other catergories.

Next was to make up the support for the main spring system that holds the main coach section.

The ends where rolled up.

The instruction tell you that the next part should be done once the supports are added to the frame.
Image

I decided to do them before as I wanted to solder them and to glue as instructed.

Test run

The next part is to build the section that fits between these and supports the main coach unit, but I'll leave these as you have to bend the wood to the shape of the coach bottom.

So we've now moved onto the coach section.

So on with the cabin section of the build.

Now I went and built this a different way to the instructions, the instructions have you put this all together while the unit is up the right way. I didn't like that as there was no way to make sure it was all kept square while it glued.

So out with the build board I used for the wheels and a piece of graph paper.
Image

As you can see I pinned it to the board.

The next part is to glue the outer sheet, again the instructions have you glue this from the centre and work outwards to each side.

So again do it my way, start at one end with a centre line drawn on all pieces.

The only part covered is this part but not all of it just the lower lip, so again I covered it all.

Next was the floor section.

The two pieces at the end are extras that I'm fitting and you'll see why next.

The floor is covered using thin strips of wood 5mm I think it was

Image

But as you can see the ends look unfinished, ok os there hidden by the seats later.

But not my way.

So hence the extra bits.

Image

Much better finish. :D

Now at this stage of the build they tell you to vanish the inside, now when I did woodwork at school be it only a couple of classes as I hated working with wood then  but now I love it  I was told not to vanish any wood that would need glue later. So why do these manufactures tell people to do it :angry-banghead: There are still a couple of bits to add like the seat supports.

The next stage is to add the outer section that we will have to sand down later (the bit I'm not looking forward to)
Image

You can just see inside the coach the seat support I've already added, you're not meant to have added this until later
