Alfa Romeo Giulia Super Hachette 1/8

Postby Betto » Sat Apr 18, 2015 11:56 am

I started this kit as it came out because I am in love with this car.
I had one in late nineties, it was a gift. White, 300.000 km, it had the body in quite bad conditions, rust.
I had no money and I had to give it to someone who could take care of it... for free.

I would prefer a civilian version, but as I saw this one I could not say no.

Pics are showing actual state, last issue I received is the number 21, even if I saw that there are parts available until the number 27.
Hachette is a bit late.

The engine is made with plastic, after I see the DS21 engine in metal I sincerely would prefere it, but on the other side the quality seems good.
My intention is to make a little build diary.
Hope you like it.

:D I am getting this kit as well betto - and i got the spider duetto - even if it has the chassis and engine in plastic, the model is really a massive heavy model -
great you started a diary, did you ever think of repainting it in white and taking off all carabinieri stuff? I am still thinking of that but there is a lot of time to decide...

Of course, I thought... but I am afraid that such a thing goes beyond my skill.
I was thinking about such a model for a long time, when I found this thread on a foum of RC cars

I thought I could try, from scratch and working with styrene and glue....
After that I found the Hachette model and..... "pheeewww...."

I am an average modeller "out of the box", I miss time to start this kind of projects.

Hi.
Yesterday I finally got parts 22, 23 and 24, three small packages, nothing extraordinary.
Image

The number 22 is simply the fuel tank plus 3 screws

Image

It was a very quick thing to put it in place

Image

Working on the next step I was a bit puzzled: I had some surprise when I had to put in place these pieces, left from from previous deliveries

Image

Image

Why instructions are telling to put them in place just now, if it is obvious easier putting them in place before placing the engine and the brake servo pump?

Image

I had to struggle to put it at its place

Following step is easier, I have to mount some support plate on the frame and the brake pump

Image

and the last one is the front left suspension arm

Image

That'all folks (for today).
Ciao!

Me voilà again.
Small update about my Giulia, as I received three small packages today.

Image

Very small package indeed, containing the front right suspension arm, 2 springs and the front suspension sub-frame.

The sub-frame ready to be fitted on the body

Image

Image

Everytime something goes wrong, I broke for the second time the clutch lever, it is a tiny plastic piece under the gearbox.
Be careful when you put the screws to mount the metal suspension subframe, you have to go through the air filter and the carburettors with the screwdriver ... there is not much space and you should apply a bit of torque.
Anyway this is the result.

Have a good night!

Hi everybody, here I am as I received yesterday issues 28, 29 and 30
Image
containing the metal steering rack with plastic front stabilizer bar, one wheel with its disc brake, and then one tyre with a wheel cap.

The steering rack has to find place there
Image

The wheel and the brake are nicely done
Image

... and their place is at the front left side
Image

The wheel gives a nice effect.

Every month we make a little step forward.
Bye

Hi.
I received july and august issues
Image

The front right wheel
Image

The transmission shaft with brake balance
Image

Image

To mount the shaft I had to remove a support.... broken at the first try
Image

Image

I suggest don't hurry, wait to have all pieces to close definitively the rear axle.
I simply stopped building for now because instruction were telling to remove the support, the one I broke, three or four times.

Image

Bye

ooohhh, bad luck I suppose -
as far as I know the hachette parts, you can use liquid cement (like airfix, revell etc) to glue the plastic tab back -
let it dry properly and it'll be like new...

Yeah :)
I use a bicomponent glue, it is really strong.

the liquid cement will dissolve the plastic and when it is cured it is ONE part again - I prefer that over the two-pack glues...

Hi everybody.
The work is going on slowly.
Saturday I decided it was time to open the cases I received some months ago...
I am assembling now the led lights, in issue 45 I received two left supports....

Image

Image

I think at least, if Hachette doesnt send the right piece, I can try to modify one of them to make it "right" ;)
It' should be just a pair of drill shots.

I wonder why Hachette is sending pieces in a strange order....
For example: in issue 22 there is the fuel tank, in issue 39 you will receive the battery bay that goes hidden in the fuel tank....
So you have to remove the fuel tank, screw the battery bay inside it and then re-install the fuel tank.
Why?
Waht about sending the battery bay before the fuel tank?
I would be just curious.

Actually I am putting on the led lights, but to do it I had to remove the luggage bay twice.... now it stands apart waiting I finish the led job.
I hope to make some progress tonight, I'll put some shots.
Bye

betto such is life, someone who is not a model builder has assembled the parts supply schedule -
I don't recall hachette made this kind of "jokes" with the duetto spider...

Well I found another problem: this is the board at 10 plugs but.... two plugs are missing.
Image
I already wrote to Hachette, hope they will solve soon... :(
Now I can't go on until I get the right pieces.

Hi.
Hachette answered quickly: they had to modify the board, that is functional as it is, but they couldn't update the instructions in time.
They are going to attach the errata corrige with issue 52.
