The painted wheels look nice on the car



The boot, bonnet and doors yet to be painted and the bumpers yet to be prep, I hope they get this finished in time for the MOT next week. Otherwise it will be another 2 weeks before I can get the MOT booked in again.

It's not going to be ready in time for the MOT again

The bonnet had been wet sanded again and more primer added, plus my other two remaining wheels have been primed





The doors have been primed ready for painting



The doors have now been painted, if you look carefully in the next pic, you might notice the door hinge has also been painted (this has been stuck on the left hand painters stand leg just above the chain). This is a replacement hinge as one of the old one had a lot of play in it

I'm with over what to do with my car

I was in the workshop the last two days fitting the weather trim, windows and locks to my doors. I'm hoping to go back in today to fit the hood. To me the car still seems a long way of from completion.

There is welding to still be done underneath, yet they can't do that until the VW that is on their only lifting ramp has had it axle replaced to free up the ramp. I was assured that would be off over a week ago. Still no sign that would be the case at all this week.

Petrol cap still needs to be primed and painted
Rear covering needs to be prep, primed and painted
Wing mirrors needs to be prep, primed and painted
Wheel caps need to be primed and painted
Hard top needs to be prep, primed and painted but not essential for having the car back for the summer.
The bonnet and boot has been sitting there for over a week still waiting to be painted.
The car needs to be MOT and a new spring fitted and my local garage is taking bookings no earlier than 2 weeks notice

We took the car in February and was told that it would all only take 2 weeks to complete, but we booked it in for 3 to be on the safe side.
Yes the car had unexpected extra work done, but we were assured once the welding was done that it would be a matter of a week or two to complete. The welding was completed over a month ago. I've been assured that they would complete the above work in a week in time for it's booked in MOT.

But while I was there over the last couple of days, they were taking other cars in to work on and it look like my car was left on the back burner. I personally can't see them completing my car in the near future.

We are very much reliant on having a car for the following reasons and we do not have access to another vehicle.

Going out (without a car, Jess has been fully housebound since February as well a myself as I Jess essential carer, I also can't leave Jess for any length of time ), regular essential hospital appointments which we are also pushing back as the NHS won't transport Jess using a hospital car due to her rare condition and we also need a car for collecting essential medication from the pharmacy.

We've been looking at our options

1. cut our losses and just purchase another car, bear in mind that we have paid them over a third of the money for the repairs and the remaining money we got saved is for the balance, but we would end up using this money for another car.

a) we then sell one of the cars when the car is completed
b) run two cars but this would need extra money and time (for MOT, tax, insurance, washing, servicing etc..)

2. Source another set of second hand parts for the car, temporarily fit these so I can use the car until the above has been painted, will mean extra work in fitting and removing the bumpers etc.. also bearing in mind that the underneath stills need welding for the MOT

3. Hire a car, which will cost around £120 for 4 days a week, which means that I'll have only 2 days use and (2 days 1 day each side of to be picked up sort out the paper work payment and dropped back again) or it will cost me around £1400 for a months hire, again it's having the money and what if in a months time the car has still not been finished

4. Yes my car is coming along nicely, should we just sit and ride this out, and just write this year off for going out, however we still need to find a solution for the hospital appointments and other essential car use.

Sorry to hear your about dilemmas, looks like your up a creek without a paddle putting it nicely. Im surprised the NHS wont provide any transport for Jess to get to her appointments, could a taxi be of any use? Best of luck with what ever you decide to do.

Exactly how we feel. I'm waiting for them to call me to go in to fit the hood. At the moment, my brain is overloaded with which options to go for We are very much in limbo at the moment with what to do.

The NHS won't provide a hospital car, but say's Jess will need to be transported in an ambulance in a stretcher, however I'm not allowed to travel in the ambulance as a carer which in itself then opens up a whole load of other problems with providing for Jessica's rare specialist needs amounts other red tape

We might look into getting a cheap car which will get us by for the time being and then when we get our car back, we can then pass the car on to my youngest daughter who will be old enough to start learning to drive this summer

I'm just in limbo at the moment with what's happening.

Jess and I decided to take a walk up there today as they didn't ring. They have assured me that they will be working full steam ahead on my car and that they are expecting to see all the rest of the parts painted by Wednesday. Alan said that he will do the welding off the ramp with the car jacked up to get it through the MOT and I'll have to bring it back in for them to underseal the ramp is available. The hard top will be done at a later date.

I'm going in tomorrow at 10am to fit the hood for them.

Fingers cross that I'll see the car complete for the next MOT date

I hope so I really don't want to spend the money that has been put aside to pay the remaining balance on a another car. We have also yet pushed so much back, we will be playing catch up with all of our appointments and plan's as soon as we get the car back.

There were signs that they had started on the wing mirrors last night. Still to start on the headlamps tops and rear bumper

I've spent the just over an hour in the body ship fitting the hood

















It's look's like they are planning to prioritise my car for the rest of this week. They are planning to get it finished for next weekend even if it means them staying up late. The car was originally booked in for 3 weeks on the basis that it was just the paintwork that needed doing. They didn't expect to find the sill gone and requiring the welding it needed doing. They were running a week behind with the previous car when my car arrived and they also had a lot of cars already booked in after the 3 weeks that they expected my car to be finished by. Alan said that he would have never carried out the work that he did on the side of my car, it required a lot of work and he would have normally refused to do that an extensive repair. But he only did it knowing how much Jess loves the car. So they seem very confident that they will get the work done for the weekend.

All i'm just doing is hoping that they manage to finish the car by the next MOT, which had been already moved 5 times

I've seen the car yesterday. All wheels are now on the car. The rear spoiler, head light tops, rear removable panel have all now been painted waiting for wet sanding and grinding/polishing.
