Its been a little while since I have had a chance to spend anytime on this sadly, family and home life seem to just keep getting in the way.

The last few days though I have finished the open 12.7cm guns, the level of cocentration on these due to the parts being tiny and fiddly made it quite tiring. I also done some very small detail painting on various parts, when zooming in with macro they looka bit messy but really dont look that bad in person, damn that macro zoom.

4 complete, some straightening to do

When I last built models many moons ago I never really managed to get the hang of water slide decals.

So after I finished the guns I dug out my test kit and started playing with the declas, a couple ruined but got the hang of it so started on one of the planes. The black cockpit was very tricky as had to fold over the cockpit.

Picture is work in progress which is why it is still wearing a gloss coat, have put aside now to let the microsol dry out will then finish the rest tomorrow

2 x E13A "Jake" aircraft all decalled up, just need to leave over night to allow the setting agent to completely dry out then add the final matt varnish

The last couple of days has been one of the times where I get a lot time to spend modelling 8-)

This evening I primed up the 12.7mm guns and made a start on the triple 25mm AA gun, only one done so far, was very fiddly though and only another 29 to go :o This might take a while

The Pontos set does have replacement turned brass barrels for these but I have decided to not to use these as I think the plastic ones look pretty good and I didnt want to torture myself replacing them all

After the long and slow process of cleaning up all the parts in the previous post I have now started the slow task of assembling them.

First 10 complete, another 20 to go

Thanks Mark

12.7cm DP guns sprayed, thinking of adding a wash, they arent as ghostly looking in the flesh its just the overhead light

Image

Image

30 open triple 25mm guns sprayed and then hand painted model air metallic black

Image

Finally got the Matt coat on the planes, they look so much better, only thing now is I am thinking of doing a wash so will need to gloss them again

I did another picture of the 25mm's as the light wasnt too good on the other one, Oxo cube for scale in picture above, you get 9 of these on the top of a cube

Well is beena while since my last update due to a number of reasons getting in the way and restricting my model time. Things like work, family time, being too cold in my garage where I model, I have not long owned the house so not had the chance yet to insulate it.

Here is a small update on what I have done since the last one, one thing not shown is the main number 1 turret now primed ready for paint.

Also no picture of the Mitsubishi aircraft that is now painted, gloss coated and almost finished decalling.

Shielded 25mm guns painted, barrels painted and everything sealed with matt varnish

Image

Number 2 secondary turret finshed with the addition of ladders and railings then primed ready for paint

Image

Somoke stack top sprayed black, this was really difficult due to all those pipes and etch, used blue tac to mask up, its not perfect but im happy with it, also gloss coat added ready for declas

Image

Flight deck sticker added, initially I though this was a decal so I added a gloss coat, will seal with matt varnish

Image

Chain painted as wasnt happy with the Kure grey I had painted it, also platform added

Image

A few small details added near the break water

Image

Dry transfer

Image

Dry transfers on both sides, I know the join between the hull pars and rescored panel lines are not the neatest but bear in mind this is taken in macro mode with full zoom, in he flesh I am quite happy with my effort

Image

And finally open 25mm and main gun barrels final matt coat applied

Don't you just hate it when life interferes with modelling !!! Well done for getting the funnel as neat as you did. It looks a real pain !! I think I would have been tempted to use a brush !!

Time for another update on where I am with this beast.

I have applied the decals to the smoke stack but no pictures yet until matt coat applied.

'Pete' aircraft finsihed

Image

Number 2 & 3 primary turrets 'brassed up' sand bags added, just need to prime now to get to where I am with number 1 turret
