Last night program brought the comp to an conclusion.

I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but worthy winners and some of the layouts were amazing, considering that they only had 36 hours to build them.

I have watched the show from week 1 and not to be contentious I have to say some of the guys doing the builds must have some kind of strange vision
impairment because what I saw was IMO "child like" and was a complete mess.
I have seen some great build's on the forum may be as collective we could enter next time :?:
This is my opinion only.

Considering that model railways can take years to build, to build a complete layout within 36 hours is a feat in itself.

I agree, some of the modelling looks like it has been done by a child, but others have done some excellence modelling within the time frame. In the episodes 1 to 4 , they were allowed pre-build 6 items. These rebuild items were excellent, but some of them fail to mirror the standard of their pr-builds on the day.

Personally, I found the series interesting, some lovey ideas and use of the scratch build items. Great to see some of their ideas and imagination run wild.

Don't forget that these guys and girls have only 36 hours to build a complete layout, I've yet to see some members on this forum to come up with a complete build of their own to show off ;)

Hi Roy, not to make you "big headed" your work on "trains layouts" knocks spots off what they have achieved.
Just a thought.

These are first class modellers with limited time to build a complete and working layout.

The teams on the program was all pushed to the limit and I thought that they did very well. There is no way that I would have built something half as good in the time limit that they had.

Like the water episode, it takes a good week to model water, as you need to allow each layer to dry before moving onto the next layer. It can take me a few days/weeks to built a model kit item. The builders in the program only had 36 hours to model water.

If you look on this forum at most of my diary builds, I've many builds that have been started, but yet to be completed. All down to lack of time, but will be completed in due course

Personally, it was interesting and some of the work on the layouts was impressive considering the time frame.
The only gripe was the Presenters, who at times seemed to be taking the proverbial.
Lets hope it inspires some youngsters to have a go at something that doesn't involve a computer.

Hi, Still in MHO only I hope that it will "inspire younger" modelers, they will be able to relate to the "child like" builds ;)

Don't forget the program makers are in the business of making great TV. They don't want a work of art which is boring to the viewing public.

Take the X factor or Britain's Got Talent for example, if they were to put all the best singers/acts in the world on, the program would be plain boring, It's all just as much about the sob stories, personalities as it is about the talent.

I thought that the Fawley Fliers did an amazing layout and their build was far from child like, but as good and as lifelike as their build was, it was no way as interesting as the overall winner (I didn't want to give too much away just in-case I spoilt it for anyone that haven't see the episodes yet).

The program contained some great ideas and the use of force prospective in the layouts. Also the scratch building ideas were brilliant too, not just in the scratch building comp, but also in the general build (ie.. the use of painted polystyrene as buildings, which could also be a work of art if they didn't have any time constraints).

:) Hi Roy, the "X factor" you are comparing the program to the X factor ? :laughing-rolling: I'm sure Simon Cowell would pull up his trousers even more and show off his "forced prospective" :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: ;)
