I've been busy

Postby royjess » Tue Aug 06, 2019 9:08 pm

It's been a while since I done any model making. I've just been so busy.

Towards the end of last year and the beginning of this year, I decided to get our home sorted. I just had very little room, mostly taken up with cardboard boxes with models stored inside and a model railway taking up most of the lounge.

I decided to create more space by building my own furniture for the lounge. I also decided to move the display cabinets that I built around as well as moved the wall mounted TV.

I made a wall shelf and display cabinet for Jess' trinkets

A very large wall cabinet to store my collection of puzzles, trophy's, models and other display items

Here is a view further back showing some shelves underneath and believe it or not, there is also a book shelf behind the sofa with the books stored sideways. No space is wasted.

A new bigger train display cabinet which now sits where my Black Pearl ship used to be on display. The train cabinet also acts as legs for the model railway (winter wonderland) which now is hinged up against the wall. The Model railway hinges down along with the display case. The railway is hidden behind the railway case.

Jess' dolls house has been moved into the recess out of the way. This recess once housed shelves full of DVD's which have now all been moved into a storage box with sleeves in doing away with the outer casing, creating loads more space.

The Black Pearl has been moved over into the other recess with caddy holes on either side and top for additional storage. This sits over the top of my desk.

A small cabinet under the TV for the sky box to sit on and storage box underneath

And inside are storage box's for the parrot food and bits

No space was wasted, behind Jess' recliner chair, another display case for Jess' display items and way down below is a bookcase.

Situated above the Model railway is just some more space to fit another display case.

We still have space for Jess' Dancing on Ice display case which is shown below in its old position, I had to move it over slightly to make room for Jess' trinket display case very first pictured in this thread.

Along with making all the above display cases (Black Pearl, Doll's house and DOI cases were built by myself in previous years) and rearranging the lounge, meant that other essential things got neglected. So it has taken me most of the last few months to catch back up to speed with things.

Hopefully over the next few weeks I may find some time to start making some more models again or carrying on with unfinished projects.

Yes that is a blue and white Rubik snake (rounded edge) also there is a Red and White snake (square edge) on the left hand side of the cabinet.

I forgot to add that I made the shelves adjustable using pegs and peg holes. Took me ages to drill out all the peg holes, but will allow me to readjust the shelf spacing just in-case I change my mind on what I would like to display and where.

Very good use of spare Roy. Your lounge would put some museums to shame!

I just marked out each hole using pencil lines and then used my pillar drill to drill them. Quiet a long boring job but worth it. The pegs are plastic ones that I got off E-bay with metal reinforced metal pins inside.

The twisty one is a normal 3x3x3 cube but with a twisty design.

The two shields in the left hand side are from a couple of magic competitions that I won back in the 80's. One is 1st price for the Doug Gordon Trophy (Grand Order of Wizards) and the other is runner up prize for the Young Magician of the Year Comp (Magic Circle).

A couple on the right hand side are from the Christmas Comp on here and the rest are from Alton Towers ride Trophy's.
