Hey..

Any of you into Garage Kits?
Did one a while ago , a kit I bought at a convention.

Image

This is the closest thing I have at the minute of a working diary.

She's about 8 cm tall ,made of resin.
The hands were a tad too high and too close to her chest , so I cut them off below the elbow and lowered them. :superlglue:

I'm an impatient man so I never airbrush anything , in stead I work only in dry-brush , using Revell paints.
Using this technic you can pretty much put on layer on layer without waiting for it to dry.

Hope you like her , cheers...

Lovely work indeed.

I think a brush is the best tool for figure painting anyway.

I do enjoy a good figure now and again. I'll try to find the threads and post a link here.
Cheers

Nice work Mark. :D

Myself , I always work by lamplight , though I check my work by daylight from time to time.
Haven't got time to work during the day.

You said on that page , you weren't entirely happy with the eyes?
If I may , I'll share my findings..
For the eyes I use one or two coats of heavily thinned white paint.
I find that in real life , at a distance the white of the eyes tends blend into the eyelids so a little flesh color coming through might be a good thing.
Also , a speck of pure white in the upper left corner of the iris will give the eye more life. (almost invisable)

Hope it helps.

Forgive my ignorance but why are the called "Garage Kits? I would really like to know. A lot of patience obviously went to bring the "Witch" back from the other side :-)

I think it's because they are low volume kits made by enthusiasts, and mostly the kits are manufactured in the garage of the maker, rather than a factory.

Thanks Redroo. :D

Mark is quite right. Although since the 90's the majority were produced by proper companies. (like Geometric Design)
However , the hobby is much more difficult to maintain nowadays , cause it's next to imposible to find a store that stocks kits.
And if they do have one , it's usually an old one.(appart from militairia , for some reason they remain popular. But almost always at a small scale and mainly focused on Diorama's)
The decline was mainly due to foreign imported recasts by companies like for instance Sol , wich illegaly copied a lot of kit's from companies like Geometric. :naughty:

Now for me there is only one way. EBay and that works , 'cept you never really know what you get , like you would in the shops.
The last kit I bought had 2 right arms.

They sent me a left arm straight away , but still had to wait a week for it to arrive.
On the upside , the price was great , one fourth of what the price would be for the original kit :D
