1/8 scratch-built C Type Jaguar

Postby Roymattblack » Mon Oct 06, 2014 3:34 pm

This one took me around 4 months at anywhere from 2-8 hours per day.

I used original Jaguar factory plans, scaled down to 1/8.
The body is carbon-kevlar, a bit like glass fibre, in a rubber mould taken from a hand carved wooden master.

All the other bits were scratch made, using a few bits from a 1/8 E type, and whatever I could scrounge or invent.
The chassis is brass tube and the wire wheels were hand-laced.

Roy.

That has to be one of the most stunning scratch built cars I've seen.

I've you hadn't had put the scratch built in the title I'd be asking where you brought it from.

Excellent work well done

Many thanks you very kind guys.

As an add-on to maybe inspire others to give it a go, I have NO bench drills, lathes, machinery, power gear etc etc etc.....
All the bits were made on my desk using knives, files and hand drills.

I DON'T have a big workshop or anything even like it.
Some of the last pics shows the model on my cutting board, on my desk.

That's where it was entirely planned, made and built.

I have never 'scratch' made ANYTHING before.
All it took was time, and a bit of research, patience, and inventiveness.

Give it a go.....

Roy.

Amazing what you have done with what you have to hand roy, I also work from a kitchen table and have to clear up after each session. Would love a proper workshop that can be left alone by the wife and kids, it would make it so much easier to do multiple builds at once.
Supurb build mate   :)

I am lucky that my 'man cave' is pretty much my domain.

I leave my projects exactly where they are, in whatever state they may be.
All down to my amazing better half Samantha, who not only encourages me, but often buys me MEGA money kits. (Pocher Mercedes comes to mind)

Roy, The challenge you have set yourself has had great dividends in our admiration of your skills and patience and a "K" really doesn't seem enough reward. But the boys have all said it by simply responding. Simply stunning mate ! 8-)

Absolutely SUPERB
A fantastic work of art and so realistic, this build alone is worth being a member here just so I can express how much I like it. And of course a "K" is awarded.

Wow!

Some seriously kind comments from you guys.
As Faramir said in LOTR:

"Praise from the praiseworthy is beyond all reward."

It was a mega-enjoyable project.
I'm currently building a Pocher Alfa Romeo Spider but once that's finished I'm going to start on a scratch 1/8 Short nose D Type Jaguar.......

Roy. (Yes - I must be nuts!)
