Hi Guys,
The Grant M3 Mk1 was completed in my early days when resuming model building after a long break.
The M3 was an interesting & unexpected introduction ( the North African campaign) to the battlefield as the 15th Panzer div found out at the battle of Bir el Harmet.
Its Panzers 11 & 111 `s were no match for the sponson mounted 75mm of the Grant. It managed to achieve some very good results that day.
It faired very well in the other parts of the North African battlefield arena for a little while ; until the use by the Africa Corps of the 88mm as an anti tank weapon (and the introduction of the Tiger 1) was quite devastating, its large target profile and insufficient armour thickness proved a contributing factor to its ultimately being outclassed.
The markings are of the 8th Brigade,7th Armoured Division.." Desert Rats".
I enjoyed building /weathering & camo of this tank. It is such an unusual design & combination of colours.
Of all the models I have build to date this one holds a particular affinity for me. It`s probably not my best build, but the overall satisfaction I acquired from start to finish, still remains with me.
John
