Revell CV-8 Hornet

Postby Morris » Sun Nov 21, 2021 12:56 pm

Now working on an oldie - A Revell Hornet in Doolittle Raid colours - it’s in an odd scale, 1/462 or something near that - flash and seams galore to clean up. Working on it out of sequence a bit to paint it….so added the prop shafts and housings before painting ….

Started the underwater hull colours with a maroon base…

Next layered on a hull red colour

Added the 5” guns, life rafts and continued the deck blue paint on the items added to the hull…the rafts should be sea grey but I used weathered yellow to break up the grey scheme…

Test fitting flight deck after painting it. Will remove it and add the the catwalks around the perimeter. The start the upper island superstructure. Everything straight from the box.

Now fitted the perimeter catwalks on the underside of the flight deck. Then I had a bit of an adventure getting the assembly to sit level - finally got some of the assembly to settle. Now on to the bridge which is old Revell and has some warped parts to fix….

Mounted the superstructure - cranes, masts etc. next, then weathering a bit….had a bit of a car wreck…broke 3 of the 4 props off…found 2 but not the 3rd one. The kit is no longer made and a one off scale. So I guess I will be missing one..

Bad news about the prop, how about putting it in a seascape?

Here it all done, kinda of a montage of Doolittle’s Tokyo Raiders stuff. The 1/48 Ruptured Duck and the Revell Raiders set.
(1/426 CV-8 Hornet and a 1/72 Ruptured Duck)

Lovely work Morris. Different scales, try a bit of forced perspective! Roy is probably the best person to talk to, but he hasn't been around for a while.
Cheers
