Flying Scotsman Visit

Postby royjess » Wed Oct 06, 2021 1:01 pm

Today, Jess and I went to see the Flying Scotsman which came to Mid Norfolk Railway

First we sat inside an old 1960's British Rail carriage

Here is a view of the old lady, Jess said the locomotive can't be a female as it has the word "Man" in the name "Scotsman"

Not a true Scotsman as the locomotive was built in Doncaster

We also got to spend a few minutes upon the footplate

They also had a couple other locomotives on site

Today we had to say one last goodbye before she leaves Norfolk, and in motion

And a British Rail Blue Electric/Diesel Class 47 County of Essex sent ahead to make sure that the track is clear

Thanks Casp,

Jess was very pleased to get onto the footplate. We were told several times that she wasn't allowed on it due to H&S, however they soon took our money for the footplate tour. Jess was very determined to get onto the footplate and I had to physically lift Jess up onto the footplate, it was a tight squeeze through the door and I couldn't see where the steps were for my feet were and they were quiet far apart. I had help from a third person that supported my back to prevent me from falling back and to guide my feet. We got Jess on entirely at our own risk as their insurance wouldn't cover us. You can see by the look on Jess' face that she was very much over the moon to have got onto the footplate.

I’m glad Jess managed to get in the cab. A real treat, and the smile could launch a thousand ships.
Cheers
